Flower care guide
A flat, perfectly round face in colours no other flower quite manages. Cheerful without being twee, and the flower most likely to make somebody smile on sight.
Gerberas are more sensitive to bacteria than almost any other cut flower. Use a scrupulously clean vase, fill it with only two to three inches of water, and change that water every single day. This one habit roughly doubles how long they last.
Cut the stems straight across with something sharp. The stems are hollow and squash easily, which blocks them.
The heads are heavy and the stems are soft, so they bend. Some bending is natural and looks fine. If a stem collapses entirely, it has taken in air; recut it and stand it in fresh shallow water.
Keep them out of direct sun and away from fruit.
What looks like one flower is hundreds: each gerbera face is made of several hundred tiny individual flowers packed into a disc.
