Caring for your vanda orchids

Recut the stems at an angle and use room-temperature water, never cold.

Change the water every four days. Vandas carry little foliage so the water stays clean for longer than most flowers.

Cold is the enemy. A vanda beside a drafty window in January will drop its buds within a day or two. Keep them in the warm part of the room, away from air conditioning in summer.

They like humidity. Mist the blooms lightly every couple of days, particularly in a heated apartment.

Vandas grow with their roots hanging in open air rather than in soil, taking their water straight from humidity and rain.
